Shaping Memory publication
Archiving as Creative Practice was the outcome of a British Council funded project I created in collaboration with Visual Arts Network South Africa (VANSA). Funding allowed us to recruit a creative archiving fellow, Mkutaji wa Njia, who used VANSA’s archive as a starting point to delve into the role of archives in contemporary visual arts practices across South Africa. Her research resulted in a publication which explored the practical and theoretical dimensions of archiving as an artistic practice.
To complement the project, a series of six online workshops investigating the ethics, possibilities and challenges of creative engagement with archives were led by Mkutaji na Njia and artist Libita Sibungu.
